Safety Advisor – Role Description

Overview:

Providing efficient and effective health & safety guidance to the NFAS and its members whilst
adhering to current UK legislation. Coordination of guidance and procedures and advising the NFAS
on health and safety matters. At all times carrying out the duties and responsibilities of the post in
compliance with the NFAS rules and Constitution.

Key Tasks:

  • Under the direction of the Committee, undertake a leading role in the development,
    implementation, review and monitoring of the health and safety guidance and procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with current legislation and guidance.
  • Undertaking discussions with the Committee and members to identify health and safety requirements and determining how these may be met.
  • Attending committee meetings, approximately 5-6 per year
  • Attend the Annual General Meeting and deliver a report
  • To manage/co-ordinate the health and safety function and ensure interfaces with other
    functions both internal and external are fully effective.
  • Attend National competitions run by the NFAS to ensure health & safety aspects are
    understood and in place (i.e. all relevant paperwork is compliant and check courses and public areas for any unsafe issues).
  • Communicate, support and train as appropriate on health and safety issues to Committee and members ensuring all are aware of their responsibilities.
  • Assist and give guidance on Risk Assessments.
  • Approve and record risk assessment documentation as required.
  • Investigate, document and report on all incidents, accidents, and applicable ill health and,
    where appropriate, notify external agencies.
  • If required, travel to, inspect and/or investigate NFAS club venues following complaints,
    concerns, accident or incidents and assist in offering solutions.
  • Report serious incidents to the Committee and, if appropriate, attend disciplinary hearings as and when required.
  • Producing/overseeing the production of information, regular reports and ‘ad hoc’ reports
    concerning all aspects of health and safety including advice on incident/accident prevention.
  • Undertake any training required by the NFAS Committee.

Skills / Experience Required:

  • Health and safety experience preferred but not necessary
  • Communication skills
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Computer literate

Time Commitment:
1 day at the weekend approximately every 2 months for Committee meetings
